A Losing Game – Alcohol Abuse And Driving

by on 2010/11/08

Giving in to the impulses of fate certainly brightens up a person's life. On certain days, you really need to let luck take control because it would make your success more sweeter. To have a winning chance, you need to play the cards. True, there are times when you can only spin the wheel and hope for the best. Taking risks with alcohol abuse, though, will not lead to a jackpot.

Young people, among other individuals, love putting life on the hot seat by drinking and driving. Because they are armed with an absolutely fake feeling of being invincible and immortal, they abandon common sense. But the wisdom of the caution "Don't drink and drive" cannot be denied. Drinking and driving is the way to self-induced hell.

Alcohol is a depressant. So, it will affect a person's ability to think and act rationally. Driving when drunk, needless to say, isn't exactly a sign of intellectual powers.

If you drink and drive, you will lose the capacity to assess and respond to circumstances sensibly. When you need to step on the brake as the traffic light changes, you may be a second too late. That minute variation can end up in you hitting a person crossing the street. And your own life would be at stake, too. Drinking also results to hazy eyesights. The ability to distinguish between the green light and the red (color perception) may decrease and night vision will be affected. The attention that driving requires would not be present if yo are driving under the influence of alcohol. You'd get drowsy, which is almost equal to driving while sleepwalking. Poor judgement would follow. And it will not help you when you start wondering if the thing that pulled up next to you is a bigger car or just someone who's on a skateboard. And eye-hand-foot movement would not be as coordinated. That's practically like giving up the wheel to someone who has never seen a car before and you're in the backseat, ready for the joyride.

Wrong decisions are mostly driven by alcohol. And when drinking is done simultaneously with the abuse of sleeping pills, stimulants, prescription medicine and cannabis, those wrong decisions may be the last batch of decisions you'll ever make.

Alcohol abuse is not a game that a person can lose, relatively unscathed. No, it takes its toll on a person's life. Folding early is not a sign of being without gumption or being without courage. Because if your life is on the table and alcohol abuse is the one dealing, going all the way in will only kick you not just out of the round, but also out of the game.
