What makes a good drug detox therapist?

by on 2009/09/03

There are some areas in this world where drug abuse is just heading in a direction where we have no control. Fortunately for us in the West have access to proper treatment facilities for drug detox which are quite good. In this respect we just don't know how lucky we are in comparison to other countries.   Drug detox is extremely difficult to go through. This is regardless of where you are in the world and what facilities you have available to you. The most elementary part of drug detox is the elimination of the drug. Then the detoxification process will go through the withdrawal effects. The first thing that the patient will do undergoing drug detox is to eliminate the drug. Then the withdrawal effects can be dealt with. These withdrawal effects can be very bad in some cases. And these effects can take a long time to get through, sometimes much more than a week. So that's the drug detox process over with then the rehabilitation process must begin. This can take the patient's full life.

As I said before, we have some great Drug detox facilities available to us in the West. I'm including drug detox therapists. Unfortunately some of our drugs detox therapists are not the same as others. What does make a good drug detox therapist? Is vitally important that the therapist uses calm understanding throughout therapy for both drug detox and the subsequent drug rehabilitation.  They need to understand all of the needs and limitations of their patients. They need to be able to be very supportive with the patient. Another thing to focus on is the definite goals at the end of the whole process.  In order that the patient be able to get through all the good times as well as the bad times they need to be given as much help at this stage as possible.

Unfortunately there are bad Drug Detoxification therapists as well as good ones. These people cannot see anything of real value in the patients beyond the paycheck at the end of the week. They don't have any empathy with their patients and therefore cannot be understanding or sympathetic. Alcohol and drugs patients are entitled to get as much help as they can. We just choose not spend that type of money on these patients in the West. We would save enough a lot more in the long run if we did so.
